A collection of projects done for friends, family, or just for fun

Hand-illustrated Card

After deciding to get an oyster grill pan listed on the wedding registry of friends, I wanted to design a customized card to go along with the gift. I sketched out the oyster shell heart, painted it with watercolors, and then added their names and the wedding date digitally. As dedicated oyster aficionados, they were thrilled with the grill pan gift, and they liked the card so much they framed it.

wedding invitation

When a relative asked me to help with her wedding invitations, I was happy to oblige. She found a great deal for 5x7 invitations at Zazzle and I designed an invitation that incorporated her wedding theme of sunflowers, lace, and burlap.

mixed media artwork

Our rented townhouse has a lot of gray walls. Rather than spend a lot of money on new decorations or furnishings, we decided to decorate with what we already had.  And one of the things we already had were curtains in a funky green and gray geometric pattern. Fun and funky, and hard to match. My solution? A piece of custom artwork to tie in the geometric shapes and colors of the curtains.

Custom tattoo design

A long-time friend asked me to design a tattoo in honor of her mother, who loved owls. She also wanted the tattoo to incorporate both of her parents' initials: OLC and NLC. The letters O and C create the eyes of the owl, while the L forms the crown of the head and the beak. The other set of initials, NLC, form the talons. Additionally, I created the body and tail using a treble clef and a bass clef, reflecting my friend's life-long love of music.

DW-40 Birthday bash

When my husband turned 40, we decided to celebrate his birthday with a weekend party. His initials are DW, and he came up with the concept of putting a slight twist on the WD-40 product name for the party theme, changing it to DW-40. I created the can image in Photoshop, made the Happy Birthday banner with my Silhouette die cut machine, and designed the koozie art in Illustrator. Special thanks to Kustom Koozies of Raleigh for the print job!

gifts for Josie

I keep in touch with my girlfriends from college, and we always try to get together at least once a year. Happily, our recent gatherings have celebrated a new member of the crew — Josie!

Josie's parents are both talented singers, and have recorded albums together. As a nod to that fact, I used a CD as part of her name in a framed art piece. For the baby shower gift, I gussied up brown kraft wrapping paper with stamped dots, die-cut letters, and a tissue paper flower. At the baby shower, we decorated onesies with fabric paint pens. Josie's mom made sure she got to wear all her haute couture, including my design!
